Aaron attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received a bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in sociology. Aaron has been an Independent Living Advisor with CPWD for 3 years and is passionate about helping people living independently.

Amy Dixon
Beyond Vision Skills Trainer
Amy is a former Certified Nursing Assistant. Her education includes a Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from Fresno City College and Baccalaureate in Social Work form Fresno State which included 9 units of Gerontology. Her personal experience in dealing with Type I Diabetes and its side affects for over 41 years adds to her ability to assist people that are differently able.

Bertha has been with CPWD for 29 years. As our receptionist, she’s the friendly face at the door, and keeps everybody in touch with each other. Bertha loves working with other people and supporting the work at CPWD.

Cheryl has been with CPWD for 9 years. Prior to that she worked with Community Link and Fairview High School in the Life Skills program. She loves the challenge and the reward of working with people and supporting them in their growth and independent living.

Chris has worked with CPWD since August 2013 as a fundraising and communications consultant. His background includes marketing and fundraising for various nonprofit and for-profit pro-social organizations in the community.

Cindy Shaffer
Employment Specialist

Cindy has a BA from Neumann University and a Non-Profit Management Certification from the University of Delaware. Prior to moving to Colorado in 2012, she worked as an advocate and educator for the Genesis Employee Foundation, while raising her son,  (one of 4 children) who has an ASD diagnosis. She currently serves as a volunteer for the Spectrum Foundation of Colorado. 

Darcy McLean
Low Vision Skills Educator

Darcy McLean is a Low Vision Skills Educator and Low Vision Support Group Facilitator in the Beyond Vision Program. Darcy has lifelong experience in low vision & blindness, with an Bachelors of Science in Human Services Counseling and 20+ years living with low vision herself. She is an avid kayaker, hiker, and gardener.  Darcy feels a strong connection to those with low vision and those caring for people with vision loss.

Debbie Brandon
Independent Living Skills Trainer

Debbie has been working with the elderly since 2007 as a Certified Nurse's Aide and in the Life Enrichment department. She worked as a independent home care aide for two years before coming to CPWD. Debbie has two granddaughters who were both born with moderated hearing loss. She loves helping people  live a full and independent life.

Dee Peterson
Home Health Manager

Dee joined CPWD in August of 2016.  She is a Certified Nursing Assistant and CPR instructor with more than 20 years experience in the health care field.

Independent living Advisor

Diane has worked at CPWD since 1984 in a variety of roles including independent living, youth summer employment and as the Longmont manager. She serves on several local committees including the St. Vrain Community Council Executive Committee, Longmont Housing Opportunities Team, and as a Peer Educator for Strength Based Professional Development through Boulder County's Building Livable and Caring Communities for All.

Gisela Hernandez
Bilingual Independent living Advisor

Gisela started working with CPWD Longmont in June of 2016, after completing her Bachelors of Science in Social Work. She believes every individual has strengths, potential, and skills to be able to live independently. She provides Independent Living Advisor Services to our Spanish Speaking members of our community and facilitates a weekly Peer Support Group.  

 

Howard Levett
Independent Living Advisor

Howard Levett has worked at the Center for People with Disabilities since 2009. He has worked in the disability community since retiring from law enforcement in 1999.

Employment Manager 
Jan has a life time passion for people who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. She has a Deaf sister who was her inspiration and she has been involved with the Deaf community for many years. Jan finds great fulfillment being an advocate, teaching, and assisting people in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community. Jan also has a passion for people who are Blind and Low-Vision and has volunteered at the Anchor Center for Blind Children. Her deepest desire has always been to work with people who are Deaf and Blind.

Jan McIntosh has been a nurse for 37 years and has been in home health care for 12 years. 

 

Jane Schiele
Transitions Program Manager

Jane started working in the independent living movement in 2000.  She feels passionately about disability rights and finds that it is the strength of the human heart and spirit that keeps her so deeply engaged in this work.

Janelle Dalvit 
Employment Specialist

Janelle has a background in care giving and working with seniors in independent living/skilled nursing for the last 8 years.  She studied in the Interpreter Preparation Program at Front Range Community college from 2010-2013, and is fluent in Sign Language.

Jennifer has degrees in Nursing and Psychology. She has worked at CPWD since 2007 and enjoys providing quality care to consumers in their homes.

Director of Independent Living Programs

Joan has been involved with the independent living movement her entire adult life. She has been employed with Centers for Independent Living in Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri before coming to the Center for People with Disabilities. She has served on a national level as a Board member with the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living. She has been active with Statewide Independent Living Councils in each of the states she has worked, as well as with the development of the State Plan for Independent Living.

Joni Daniels
Independent Living Skills Trainer

Joni has been a cook and chef since the early 90's, and has worked with people with disabilities for more than 20 years. She taught Special Education at the elementary school level and has 4 children of her own. Last year, Joni traveled to Ghana to study African dance, drumming, and language, and is helping to build a cultural center for children in Kokorobite, Ghana.

Conducting training with experience and inspiring commitment to CPWD's mission, Kia is passionate about the results of the program as well as the welfare of the consumers.

Margaret joined CPWD 3 years ago after moving to Colorado from Michigan where she worked in administration and accounting. She has two children and enjoys the Colorado outdoors.

Maria has been with CPWD since 2010. Previously, she worked with children with disabilities in Russia, and is currently the board president of SOAR (Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief) Colorado.

Beyond Visions Skills Trainer

Melanie Shotwell holds her MSW from DU and has been working with people who are older and blind since her undergraduate experience at CSU in 1994. She currently works in the Beyond Vision department in the North Metro office and credits her mother, who was diagnosed with macular degeneration 30+ years ago, as the reason she works in this field.

 

Michael Werner
Independent Living Skills Trainer

Michael joined CPWD in May of 2014. Previously, he was an Activity Director of a long term care facility. Michael joins the Independent Living Program to help others take advantage of new opportunities, reach their independent living goals and maximum potential.
